I have been working in intellectual property law since 2001. I began by conducting prior art searches for patent applications and identifying opposition materials.
In order to be able to work beyond the searches, I was admitted as a European Patent Attorney before the European Patent Office (EPO) in 2009 and as a patent attorney in 2013. These qualifications allow me to represent clients before the German Patent and Trade Mark Office (DPMA), the Federal Patent Court of Germany (BPatG), the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), and the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO). Since the creation of the Unified Patent Court (UPC) of the EU, I have been authorised to act as a representative there.
Although I work in many exciting areas, I continue to enjoy conducting searches for our clients and use the publicly accessible databases of the patent offices and patent organisations as well as databases from STN®, PubMed®, or MEDLINE®.
My areas of expertise include chemistry, pharmaceutical products and processes, food technology, chemical engineering, biotechnology, and environmental technology.
I am particularly interested in supporting start-ups. Founders face major challenges, especially in the initial phase.
I have undergone further training in mediation and mediative communication, which are becoming increasingly important in resolving intellectual property conflicts. For example between joint applicants and inventors and in the area of employee inventions.
The aim of mediation is for the parties to find a “win-win” solution that resolves the conflict. Mediative communication can also facilitate conflict resolution.
After studying chemistry and receiving my doctorate at the Free University of Berlin, I worked for 10 years in a medium-sized pharmaceutical company in both production and research. My own inventions then led me to industrial property protection and becoming a patent attorney.
I specialise in chemistry, pharmacy, pharmaceutical and medical technology, biochemistry, biotechnology, chemical engineering, environmental technology, renewable energy, and mechanical engineering. I have a strong interest in trade mark law, and the acquisition and enforcement of trade marks is one of my key specialities.
I qualified as a German Patent Attorney in 1995 and as a European Patent Attorney in 1999. After this, I worked as a sole practitioner in my own firm. From 2006 to 2020, I was a founding partner of “Müller & Schubert Patentanwälte”, and from 2020 to 2023, I resumed work as a sole practitioner.
Since 2023, I have been a founding partner of the law firm Braeuning & Schubert Patentanwälte GbR
After studying human biology with a biomedical focus and a biotechnology specialisation in Norway, I completed my doctorate at the Free University of Berlin.
Since 2013, I have been working in intellectual property, and since 2016, I have been authorised to represent clients before the German Patent and Trade Mark Office (DPMA), the Federal Patent Court of Germany (BPatG), the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). In 2021, I was admitted as a European Patent Attorney and have been authorised to represent clients before the European Patent Office (EPO). Since the creation of the Unified Patent Court (UPC) of the EU, I have been authorised to act as a representative there.
I advise clients on all aspects of intellectual property law. My technical expertise includes molecular biology, genetics, virology, biochemistry, biotechnology, pharmaceutical products, and medical technology. In addition to representing clients in patent proceedings, my work focuses on trade mark law.
After working for five years as head of the transfer and intellectual property rights department at a German university, I have extensive experience in employee invention law as well as in the drafting and negotiation of licence agreements. I also enjoy advising start-ups during their founding phase and beyond.
Since 2023, I have been a founding partner of the law firm Braeuning & Schubert Patentanwälte GbR

This includes the path from invention to patent, the prerequisites, legal enforcement in courts, and the economic utilisation of intellectual property rights.
We offer workshops and seminars on protecting and utilising university inventions and research with a focus on start-ups and industry collaborations.
